PAOK FC statement
After latest developments in Greek football regarding the 12 clubs’ movement, PAOK FC would like to clarify the following:
PAOK FC maintain their stance as expressed for months now. Regarding the proposals of the 12 clubs, we continue in perfect sync. We agree and stand by their positions that were co-created through fruitful dialogue and exchange of ideas and aim to the cleansing and progress of Greek football. That is the objective set by PAOK FC major President Ivan Savvidis anyway. However, it would be wise and useful for Greek football’s greater good to see the redistribution share be invested in grassroots football.
We have the same stance regarding refereeing as the 12 clubs. We wish for swift institutional changes that will bring back reliability in football –and the league becoming more competitive is one of them.
In this framework, we support the plan to reduce Super League teams from 16 to 14, but in the long term, following a specific plan and timetable. We also stand for the participation of all teams –including the top-placed- in the play-off procedure.
The Greek Federation (EPO) and the Superleague have not carried out the important changes agreed in the past three months, for different reasons each. Therefore we are in favour of the league not kicking off unless there is institutional and structural reconfiguration.
We remain in support of any initiative that the Greek government will adopt towards cleansing football.
PAOK FC has already assumed the cost of rocking the boat in Greek football and becoming the catalyst for necessary changes. We are glad for the growing number of football administratives, clubs and unions who realize that the current situation simply cannot go on.
