AEK – PAOK: Mixed zone

Kace, Rodrigues, Skondras and Kitsiou spoke to media representatives after the encounter against AEK Athens about the valuable draw and Tuesday’s “final” against Panathinaikos.

29.05.2016

Ergys Kace played his last match for PAOK this season, as he leaves on Monday to join Albania’s preparation camp for Euro 2016. He said the following:

«I leave tomorrow and I feel miserable for not being there for the last match, to help my team in this “final”. We started with zero points in the play-offs and now we have eleven –that speaks for itself. We all helped. Our coach and all players proved that we have strong character and we became a tight-knit group –something we lacked previously. We must not approach Tuesday’s game with the aim to get the draw point. We must play strong and aim for victory, even if a draw suits us as well. Of course I will watch Tuesday’s game, I can’t miss it!

My future is at PAOK. Nobody knows what the future can bring, only God knows. Euro is a huge competition and every player dreams of participating in it. We have been drawn in a tough group with France, Romania and Switzerland. We have our job cut out for us, but if we play like we did in the qualifiers, we might advance to the knock-outs”.

Garry Rodrigues spoke about Tuesday’s game and the need to defeat Panathinaikos:

«We fight as a team. We all try together, we don’t concede goals easily. We are very strong, feisty and focused. This is a very good version of PAOK. If we continue like this, we will get top spot. I don’t believe in luck. I am only focusing on the game. We are better than our opponents and we can do it. Panathinaikos are good, but we play at home and we need to win”.

Giannis Skondras spoke about the upcoming “final” and underlined that fatigue is a secondary issue in such matches. He also sent his message to the “Double-Headed Eagle’s” fans:

«Considering how the match against AEK Athens unfolded, it was a positive result. We now need to look ahead, because there is a “final” ahead. We want to win the play-offs. There is fatigue after so many games. But we leave it behind and bring out our soul and passion. We displayed these elements today and we need to do the same on Tuesday. We are good, we have a very good roster. We will play with our fans on our side and that is very important. We hope they will help us. We are aware that we didn’t do well in regular season. In the play-offs we wanted to show our true potential. If we finish at the top, it will be a good season. Results prove that Mr. Ivić has taken 100% of all players. We do a very good job”.

Stelios Kitsiou declared himself confident that the team will do their best in the “final” against Panathinaikos:

«We have one more “final” ahead on Tuesday. We played for two results today against AEK Athens and we ended up with a valuable draw. We depend on us and we are ready for the last game. We have proved that we are passionate and, if we keep our focus, we will make it”.
