The match resembled a lot to the quarter-final against AC Sparta Praha, but the roles were reversed. The “Double-Headed Eagle” took the lead, the Belgians made a comeback and PAOK scored just before full time to force a penalty shoot-out. Syllektis saved two spot kicks and sealed victory.
The troops of Angelos Zazopoulos and Pablo García started strong. They managed to take the lead in the 15th minute through Chatzidimpas, who collected the rebound after the goalkeeper of Bruges failed to clear the ball.
After the interval, the Belgian side improved considerably, took advantage of PAOK’s defensive slip-ups and scored twice. But the “Double-Headed Eagle” didn’t give up. They leveled the score with Τzovaras’s powerful shot and forced a penalty shoot-out. PAOK goalkeeper Syllektis stole the show with two saves. On Holy Friday morning, the Thessaloniki side will play against the winners of Sturm Graz- Ferencváros for 5th place.
