Statement of Ivan Savvidis

After the annulment of Thursday’s scheduled meeting, PAOK FC owner Ivan Savvidis made the following statement:

24.03.2016

«Despite postponing all my affairs in order to assist to yet another effort to cleanse Greek football accepting the proposal of a state body, it wasn’t possible for all of us to sit around the table and seek solutions –and that makes me very upset. Unfortunately, the Greek state showed their feebleness. Perhaps the restrictions concerning one of the guests weren’t known in time?

But that also needs to be handled by the state, to determine who has the right to participate in such meetings before they extended an invitation to me (perhaps “guests” are the last to know).

Despite all that, I assume that the search for solutions regarding football is ongoing. I believe it is high time for the Prime Minister to step in and take the initiative.

We are still held hostages by corruption and unethical games.

Right now I am in Athens and ready to reshuffle my schedule, getting over my personal pride and disappointment. I suggest that everybody does the same and we organize an informal dinner between the four owners and a government representative.

That is the only way to safeguard the hope of millions of fans that eventually this dirty and corrupt system might get cleansed.

I pledge that PAOK will support any government initiative towards that objective.
