PAOK – Panathinaikos: Mixed zone

Here is what PAOK players said in the mixed zone of Toumba Stadium after their fine victory over Panathinaikos for matchday 8 of the Super League.

25.10.2015

Alexandros Tziolis talked about the determination shown by “Double-Headed Eagle” players right from the start:

«We snatched the opportunity to take the lead and that facilitated our task. We were very good and fresh tonight, we extended the scoreline within minutes to make matters easier. We haven’t had success lately against Panathinaikos. We apply different tactics now. We want to win this game so much, there was no other result for us. We were better than them on the pitch. Our position in the standings didn’t stress us. Quite the contrary. We are more determined. We are doing a fine job and we didn’t deserve to throw away all these points. We deserved to win. We now focus on our fixtures ahead, a string of many and tough encounters. We have fallen behind in the standings and realistically we cannot be talking about the league title at this given moment. We are on a building procedure. We faced many demanding games in Greece and Europe. We must win every game. There will be points lost, but we are working hard and are on the right path. I admit we have conceded several goals from set pieces. It’s a matter of focus. I hope we will improve in that area. To be honest, we have no patience here in Greece. Fans are demanding and want things to be achieved quickly. We need to produce fine results in order to keep them happy. That will buy us time. Charisis is a good and talented player. I try my best to help younger guys in the squad. They have a bright future ahead of them«.

Charis Charisis, who came off the bench again as he had done against Dortmund, said:

«I believe we were equally good in other games, but didn’t get what we wanted. Today, apart from our fine performance, we had luck on our side. I am trying to give my best everyday. It’s up to the coach to decide who plays –and the coach wants the best for the team«.

Garry Rodrigues, who stood out against Panathinaikos, said the following:

«We played very well from minute one. It was by far our finest first-half performance. We were better and won deservedly. This result was achieved through collective effort. The whole team played well and through the team I also played well. In recent years I have been playing more to the left. If on the right, I can help. If on the left though, I am more dangerous. Either side however is fine with me«.
