Atromitos – PAOK: Mixed zone
It was a mettlesome victory that proved PAOK’s capability of fighting each minute, each play, each match. Right after the final whistle at Peristeri, players spoke about the important away win over Atromitos for matchday 5 of the Super League.
Róbert Mak, who scored the winner, spoke about his individual performance and the team’s capabilities. According to him, PAOK can take on any rival:
«As I said after the previous match, I manage to score in some matches and don’t score in others. I had my share of chances against AEK Athens, but failed to score and I had said that I would try harder in upcoming games. Today I got one opportunity and landed it. These three points are important and make us stronger and ready for more wins. We are totally focused on the game against Borussia Dortmund. Perhaps my good start is explained by my new position on the pitch, playing in a more central role that allows me freedom of movement to right and left. We are producing attractive football and are strong. Our football this season is more free-flowing and we still go for crosses, as last season. We have two tough matches ahead, but we first focus on Borussia Dortmund. We can beat any rival, especially in Toumba and with our kind of football. I strongly believe it. Borussia Dortmund are a team of Champions League caliber that just feature in the Europa League. We will do our best to win for our fans and then deal with the Olympiacos encounter. We have a tough schedule, but that’s football«.
Giorgos Tzavellas spoke about the importance of winning, team spirit and the two demanding upcoming encounters:
«We are happy to turn the tie around and win, but I believe that the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole truth about match. We could have broken the deadlock, but even so we are happy. This season we are more compact as a team and work on our tactics. We are up for two very tough encounters. Against Borussia Dortmund, we need to close up spaces, but aim to win. The Olympiacos game will be just like every home encounter. We will start strong in order to get the desired result«.
Dimitris Pelkas was on the same wave length:
«It was a hard-fought victory in a complicated outing. We had the moral strength to work out a comeback and win the game. We focus now on Thursday’s match. We have a tough week ahead with demanding games. Our prime concern now is the very tough encounter against Borussia Dortmund. We know how good they are. Winning tonight after turning the match around in 30 minutes is a confidence booster. We failed to score a deserved opener in the first half and conceded a goal when dropping our guard down momentarily. Letting our rivals score with so few chances is not good and we need to remedy that. The match against Dortmund will be completely different and we will try to be as good as we can«.
