Qäbälä FC – PAOK: Mixed zone

The players of the “Double-Headed Eagle” went through the mixed zone of “Bakcell Arena” after the final whistle of the encounter against Qäbälä FC and shared their thoughts on the match and the tough matches ahead.

17.09.2015

Dimitris Pelkas spoke commented on the unplayable pitch, but also spoke about PAOK playing their game and always striving for the best:

«We wanted all three points. We tried to produce the same level of football we have been producing lately. The pitch was in a bad condition, the ground was small and our rivals defended in numbers. We wasted a few chances, but it’s important that we didn’t lose and didn’t concede. Qäbälä FC rely on their defensive mechanisms and the condition of the pitch and ground allows them to keep clean sheets. There are good and bad days at the job. Today I didn’t get to be as accurate in my passing, I admit I have yet to adjust myself in matches every Thursday and Sunday. We put this match behind us and continue. We have lots of work ahead. We are a new team with a new philosophy. We play as our coach wants us to, keeping the ball down, focusing on one game at a time. Now we must concentrate on the match against AEK Athens, which will be entirely different. We aim to win it. It’s a tough period, with many and tough games. We must recuperate as best as we can between matches and go for the three-pointer each time«.

Giorgos Tzavellas added the following:

«We earned a point today –let us not focus on the two points wasted. There is time ahead to recover these points in the remaining matches. We must focus on the positive side –I believe we played well«.

As for Robin Olsen, who produced his best display to date at PAOK, he spoke about his boosted self-confidence, but also about the disappointment of the team for not winning their match in Baku:

«It was a tough match… Qäbälä FC are good at home. We were not as performant as we wished. I didn’t like the final result, but at least we didn’t lose. One point is better than zero points. We must look ahead to our next match at home and get better results. I am not as happy as I could be. My self-confidence is indeed growing, but what matters is the team«.
