PAOK rivals will travel to Thessaloniki for the UEFA Europa League play-offs boosted by their first league victory in the season, recorded against Viborg FF.

Thomas Frank’s team dictated play from early on with their attacking mentality and managed to score the opener after just six minutes of play through Teemu Pukki, who collected the assist from his partner upfront, Ronnie Schwartz. Brøndby IF displayed good passing, improved defending and wasted several chances to increase their lead in the first half.

After the interval, Pukki remained very lively and creative, scoring a second goal in the 70th minute thus sealing victory. It was the fourth goal of the Finnish striker in five league encounters. Brøndby IF kept their foot on the throttle. Super sub Johan Elmander made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute and Lebogang Phiri wrapped up proceedings deep into stoppage time.

It was the first victory in a month for the Danish side, who had last prevailed over PFC Beroe Stara Zagora for the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League on 16 July.

Brøndby IF’s line-up against Viborg FF: Rønnow, Albrechtsen, Dumić, Larsson, Durmisi, Ørnskov, Nørgaard (61′ Holst), Phiri, Pukki (84′ Rashani), Schwartz (61′ Elmander), Eriksson.
