Veria – PAOK: mixed zone
Here is what PAOK players and staff said after the final whistle of the encounter against Veria.
Ivan Leko represented the coaching staff:
«Today we gave the opportunity to several new players to play. Our focus now is on Brøndby IF. We wanted to check out our status. We didn’t perform well, but the team did show strong character. We are not worried about the result. We want to prepare well for the encounter against Brøndby IF. Jairo proved he has pace and quality, that is why we signed him. I don’t like talking about specific players and we know that Jairo, Leovac, Rodrigues and Malezas will need time to adjust. It’s a pity that the Brazilian and Leovac won’t play in the play-offs. We have good players and are better than Brøndby IF, therefore I believe that we will advance to the group stage«.
Garry Rodrigues played his first game for PAOK:
«We are trying to bring on the pitch all the aspects of our work during trainings. I am well and I am trying to train at a higher tempo. The coach will decide whether I will play against Brøndby IF. Whatever he considers right for the team«.
Stelios Malezas spoke about the upcoming encounter against the Danish side, after his unofficial reappearance for PAOK:
«It’s good for the team to play with two different tactical systems. It’s important for the team to win. As far as I know, Brøndby IF are a strong side. We need to be focused and to our best to win that match«.
As for Miguel Vítor, he stressed that the friendly encounter against the Imathia outfit will provide a valuable lesson, especially the errors committed:
«It was a defeat and we can’t dismiss it, but it’s important to bring new elements in our game. It was a tough week of intense training. We must learn from our errors and avoid them in official games. Brøndby IF are a good and experienced side. We need to be focused and take advantage of the first leg at home to gain the upper hand in the tie. Our newcomers have quality. They have trained just a few times with us. They are adjusting to the club and are trying to bring out things on the pitch«.
