PAOK seal 1970-71 season with a win
For the last league matchday, PAOK played host to Kavala and prevailed 1-0 in an encounter of no importance for the standings.
The only goal of the encounter came courtesy of Achilleas Aslanidis, who also topped the list of PAOK scorers in the league that season. Both team were in the middle of the standings and the “Double-Headed Eagle” were looking for yet another home win. One week earlier, PAOK had recorded a 3-2 victory over then European Cup finalists Panathinaikos. That result deprived the Athens outfit of any mathematical options to win the league title.
Achilleas Aslanidis, who scored against Panathinaikos as well, was leading the scorers’ standings with a total of 8 goals, one more than Koudas and Stavridis. In the 24th minute of the encounter, Aslanidis made it 1-0 over Kavala, his ninth league goal of the season.
In total, Aslanidis scored 13 goals that season, 9 in the league and 4 in the Greek Cup. Koudas had 9 (7 in the league, 1 in the Greek Cup and 1 in Europe), the same as Paridis (4 in the league and 5 in the Greek Cup).
On that day, PAOK fielded the following line-up: Savvoulidis, Gounaris, Kontogiorgos, P.Papadopoulos, Bellis, Sarafis, Aslanidis, Mantzourakis (75’ Stergiadis), Chatziantoniou (60’ Stavridis), Lazos, Poulaschidis.
