Vote for Best Goal of 2014-15
It was a negative season overall for PAOK, but they did manage to score some beautiful goals. You now have the opportunity to vote for the best one, in the poll conducted by paokfc.gr
Goals are the essence of football. If spectacular, they bring fans to their feet. Our team didn’t achieve their goals this season, however they did offer us some inspired moments.
The efforts that earned “Goal of the Month” awards throughout the season as per your vote make the final shortlist. Here are the candidates:
Μaarten Martens is our first pick, with his belter against Zimbru Chișinău in Toumba Stadium. The Belgian slalomed his way through four rivals and unleashed an unstoppable shot to seal a large victory for PAOK and clinch “Best Goal of August” award.
Răzvan Raț won the September accolade, with his expertly taken direct free-kick against OFI Crete at Toumba that left no options to the rival goalkeeper.
Stefanos Athanasiadis has two goals competing for Goal of the Season –and they are much alike. He scored the first in the home encounter against Veria, with a side volley from Raț’s pinpoint cross from the left. The second one was also a side volley, teed up by Skondras, and scored against Platanias.
Facundo Pereyra also netted two goals that made our shortlist –in connecting months. In November, PAOK played host to Panathinaikos at Toumba Stadium and the visitors took the lead. The Argentinian forward came off the bench and leveled the encounter with a direct-free kick.
In December, Facundo Pereyra was on target again. In the clash for top spot of the standings against Olympiacos, the first-half score was 1-1. In the 49th minute, Ergys Kace sent the Argentinian clear and Facundo let the ball take one bounce and then unleashed a stunner to win the match and hand his team three crucial points. Pereyra’s goal was voted Best Goal of December, of the Year 2014 and also topped the poll conducted by Nova TV for Best Goal of the Season. It remains to be seen whether it will earn a fourth accolade.
Christian Noboa joined PAOK during the winter transfer window and introduced himself in the away encounter against Veria with a breathtaking goal. Skondras swung a cross from the left and incoming Noboa finished with aplomb.
Giannis Skondras turned from provider to scorer and gets nominated for the Goal of the Season award with his strike against Panathinaikos at Leoforos. PAOK full-back escaped Nano long enough to net a thumping drive that left Steele flabbergasted, turning things around for PAOK –even temporarily.
Last but not least in our candidates’ list is a player who lifted his performances to assume a more active role in PAOK’s attacking plays. Just before the season finale, he proved he has become a dead-ball specialist. The match at Corfu was nearing to a close and it was looking unlikely that any team would break the deadlock. A direct free-kick proved the turning point of the encounter. Noboa stepped aside and let Ergys Kace to take the free-kick. The Albanian midfielder was successful and earned PAOK three points.
