Alexandros Tziolis’ award

He never set out to become a fans’ favourite and never achieved it. A low-key but firm person, he has substance in his game and does his best to lead his team to victories. Even if his best isn’t enough sometimes…

10.06.2015

Most PAOK members would like to forget this past month. May marked a painful end to the season, as it saw the team collapse in the play-offs. In a total of six official encounters, PAOK won only once, played three draws and were defeated twice by Panathinaikos, scoring a total of just two goals.

Alexandros Tziolis’s performances were one of the few positive things to stand out of this mediocrity. He was voted MVP of the month in the poll conducted by paokfc.gr. The 30-year old midfielder was missed considerably in the first months of 2015, as his groin injury coincided with PAOK’s downfall. Having fully recovered, he returned to action and was a leading figure on the pitch.

His commanding displays also helped him back to the national squad of Greece. He won his first indivual MVP award of the season getting 57,69% of the vote, leaving the centre-back duo in second and third place respectively. Giorgos Tzavellas got 24,9% of the vote and Miguel Vítor got 17,41%.

Alexandros Tziolis will also be a candidate for the “Platon Foropoulos” award, bestowed to the Most Valuable Player of PAOK for 2014-15.
