PAOK seal their ticket for the 1977 Greek Cup final
PAOK comfortably dispatched Fostiras in the Greek Cup semi-finals of 1977 and qualified to the final for the ninth time in their history.
In front of 15.000 spectators at Toumba Stadium, PAOK thrashed Fostiras 4-0 and comfortably sealed their passage to the Greek Cup final. They scored the opener after just 4 minutes of play, following a combination by Terzanidis and Gounaris. Sarafis unleashed a powerful drive and Kefallianos, the goalkeeper of the Tavros outfit cleared but the ball landed at the feet of incoming Orfanos who collected the rebound and made it 1-0.
Just one minute later, Sarafis was denied by the woodwork. Orfanos doubled his tally in the 42nd minute following a pass by Terzanidis.
In the second half, it was Neto Guerino’s turn to get on the scorers’ sheet. PAOK were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute, as Τasopoulos handed the ball and the Brazilian forward converted the spot kick extending his team’s lead to 3-0. Gounaris’s direct free kick was also denied by the woodwork in the 75th minute. Seven minutes later, Guerino made it 4-0 with a fine effort and was acclaimed by PAOK faithful.
PAOK players applauded their opponents as they left the field, acknowledging their fighting spirit and fair play of the Fostiras players. An initiative of moral superiority.
