«Our remaining matches are crucial»
Here is what Giorgos Georgiadis said in his press conference, right after the final whistle of the encounter between Panathinaikos and PAOK at Leoforos.
Here is what the head coach of PAOK said:
His initial statement:
«There is not much to talk about tonight’s match. Panathinaikos were the better team and deserved to win. I want to congratulate them on clinching top spot of the play-offs. After two tough months in the league, they were the most clear-headed team in the play-offs. As things stand, today’s match was not the most decisive for us –the upcoming ones are. We need to prepare for Wednesday’s game against Atromitos. We opted to field those who were available and bring younger guys on the pitch in order to rest the more experienced ones. As I said earlier, today’s match was not the crucial one».
On how the team can turn their performances around in a span of just three days:
«Wednesday’s match will be different. We were not inferior to Atromitos or Asteras Tripolis in our first play-off encounters and hopefully the players will understand the significance of the two matches remaining. We must make the most of the opportunities presented to us».
On how the team fell from first place of the standings in regular season to third place in play-offs:
«I don’t wish to talk about the past. There are still two matches remaining to be played within a week».
On the fact that PAOK lost all four league games to Panathinaikos this season:
«We need not focus on today’s game. There is the match against Atromitos ahead of us and we must look forward».
On the condition of Mak, Athanasiadis and the rest of injured players:
«I am not sure about their availability. Hopefully we will be able to count on most of them on Wednesday».
