U14s deprived of luck at Lille
PAOK U14s had a series of unlucky experiences at Européen Baisieux tournament at Lille, held from 22 to 25 May.
Spyros Atmatzidis broke his arm and returns to Greece with a cast on it. Giorgos Vrakas also sustained an injury –thankfully, not a serious one. Despite their excellent performances in the tournament of Lille, PAOK were deprived of a final four participation due to details deciding a three-way tie.
PAOK kicked off the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Le Havre AC (Pournarasscored for the “Double-Headed Eagle”). Then they defeated FC Dinamo București 1-0 courtesy of a Vrakas goal and QPR with same scoreline (Voutsas netted the solitary goal). In that match, Atmatzidis broke his arm and Vrakas sustained his injuy, both getting ruled out of the tournament.
In their fourth encounter, PAOK were defeated 2-0 by Olympique Lyonnais and then played a goalless draw against Beşiktaş JK. They wrapped up their group matches with a 2-0 win over RC Lens, Georgiadis netting a hat-trick.
The pupils of Alexis Alexiadis and Giannis Ampatzidis took fourth place in their group, level on points with second-placed Olympique Lyonnais and third Le Havre AC., and didn’t make it to the final four of the tournament.
The tournament is organized in order to put a smile on the face of 20-year old Paul, who has been confined to a wheel chair since the age of 3.
