PAOK hit six for the first time
PAOK recorded their first six-goal victory in a league match 48 years ago, on 21 May 1967 against Trikala. Until that day, their larger win was a 4-0 recorded at home against Ethnikos on 20 June 1965.
The “Double-Headed Eagle” had… rehearsed their goal galore a few weeks earlier. On 9 April 1967, they defeated Vyzas Megara 5-2 at Toumba. Let us stress however, that PAOK were not that productive in 1966-67. They netted just 36 goals in 30 encounters and recorded nine goalless draws.
In the 6-0 thrashing of Trikala, Leandros Symeonidis (pictured on the left, Giakoumis is on the right) scored a brace, while Afentoulidis, Charalampidis, Makris and Fountoukidis also made the scorers’ sheet.
PAOK’s line-up on that day: Savoulidis, Makris, Fountoukidis, Tatsis, Nikolaidis, Theofanidis, Leandros, Giakoumis, Charalampidis, Mouratidis, Afentoulidis.
