Win in Crete helps U20s to third place

PAOK U20s emerged victorious from their encounter at Heraklion. Combined with Panionios’ loss to Xanthi, the “Double-Headed Eagle” climbed to third place in the Super League U20 standings.

PAOK U20s are still the reigning champions. Their roster has undergone extensive renovation this season, however their journey so far proves there is talent in future generations and that work is paying off.

After their draw with Panionios, Vladan Ivić’s pupils returned to their winning ways, prevailing 2-1 over OFI in “Theodoros Vardinoyannis” Stadium. The “Double-Headed Eagle’s” youngsters were in command throughout the encounter, wasted many chances to score more goals and finally got a deserved and valuable three-pointer that sees them climb to third place of the standings, taking also advantage of Panionios’ defeat by SKODA Xanthi.

PAOK fired on all cylinders from the start and left their opponents no room to breathe, let alone become dangerous. After a series of wasted opportunities, they scored in the 35th minute. Dimitriadis teed up Tsolakidis and he coolly dispatched the ball for the opener.

During the interval, the players were informed that SKODA Xanthi had defeated Panionios. This piece of news served them as extra motivation to finish the job at hand. Dimitriadis turned from provider to scorer with an impressive shot from the edge of the box in the 50th minute.

The Cretan side had not threatened PAOK’s box, but somehow managed to reduce distances in the 74th minute, as a shot was deflected off Tsiampazis and landed at the back of the net. The “Double-Headed Eagle” then took the foot off the throttle and held on to the result until the final whistle.
