1974 Greek Cup semi-final
PAOK ease past Pierikos in the Greek Cup semi-finals, securing their fifth participation in the trophy match of the competition –a trophy they would win eventually.
On 8 May 1974, PAOK visited Kaftanzoglio to play against second-tier Pierikos in front of 3.000 spectators.
The “Double-Headed Eagle” wanted to finish off the encounter as quickly as possible, but Achilleas Aslanidis’s strike was denied by woodwork in the first minute of the game. Pace dropped and the first half was rather uneventful, Pierikos minding their defence and coming twice close to an opener with Kalampakas (24’) and Adamopoulos (26’).
Koulis Apostolidis’s powerful header forced a good save by Pierikos goalkeeper in the 58th minute. PAOK managed to get that elusive goal in the 88th minute with a header by Stavros Sarafis set up by Aslanidis.
