Tzavellas voted 11888 MVP of 2015-16 season

In the summer of 2013, PAOK signed Giorgos Tzavellas as a solution at left back. Three years later, centre back Tzavellas wins the 11888 MVP award for 2015-16 season.

Huub Stevens’s improvisation to move Tzavellas to the centre of defence paid off. After a necessary transitional period and some problems along the way, the Greek international defender has evolved into a reliable option as centre back at PAOK.

This season has been long and tough, but for Tzavellas it was the most mature of his career. He totalled 3.970 minutes on the pitch, stayed injury-free, was consistent both in a three- or a four-man defence, wore the captain’s armband, scored and provided assists.

His displays earned the respect of the most severe critics: PAOK’s faithful. Our fans voted for him in the poll conducted by paokfc.gr, earning him the “Platon Foropoulos” 11888 MVP of the season award. Giorgos Tzavellas got 37,62% of the vote.

Also enjoying the best season of his career, Róbert Mak landed in second place with 26,46% of the vote. He also featured in a different position on the pitch. Igor Tudor fielded him as central forward and the Slovakian player went on to score 20 goals. Mak topped the statistical categories of shots from the box, shots on goal, was second in minutes played, successful crosses and fourth in the assists table with 5 decisive passes.

A surprise inclusion completes the top three, as Giannis Mystakidis got 11,59% of the vote. Many had predicted that he wouldn’t remain in the roster, but the young attacking midfielder won over the crowd with his powerful performances in his maiden season at Toumba. His uncanny versatility saw him feature as right back, left full-wing, right and left winger or second striker. He scored six goals and produced seven assists in 1.458 minutes on the pitch, proving that PAOK can rely on their own players for the future.
