Comfortably through

26.01.2017

PAOK prevailed 4-1 over Panetolikos to go through to the Greek Cup quarter-finals on a 6-1 aggregate score.

The “Two-Headed Eagle” recorded two victories to qualify to the last “eight” of the competition and are now awaiting Friday’s draw to find out who their next rival will be.

In the 9th minute, a powerful shot of José Alberto Cañas forced an impressive save out of Kyriakidis. Five minutes later, the goalkeeper of Panetolikos blocked Stelios Kitsiou’s shot.

Just before the stroke of half hour, Efthymis Koulouris produced a pin-point cross from the right flank, but Yevhen Shakhov passed up the opportunity for the opener from close up.

At the late stages of the first half, PAOK increased their pressure and came close with Giannis Mystakidis who fired narrowly wide over the crossbar in the 41st minute.

Panagiotis Deligiannidis and Diego Biseswar however managed to do what Mystakidis couldn’t! The young defender of PAOK scored the opener seconds later with an angled volleyed shot. In the 43rd minute, Biseswar made it 2-0 with a powerful shot, culminating a counterattack that Shakhov initiated with an interception.

After the interval, the “Two-Headed Eagle” continued pressuring for more goals. In the 53rd minute, Shakhov scored from close range, collecting the rebound after Kyriakidis saved Koulouris’s header.

Aleksandar Prijović made his debut with the black-and-white shirt and combined it with his maiden goal for the club, converting the spot kick earned by Facundo Pereyra in the 78th minute!

Panetolikos could only reduce distances to 4-1 with a header by Paulo, just a few seconds before the final whistle, that saw PAOK march through to the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup.
