Dominant but goalless

15.09.2024

PAOK were superior throughout the derby clash against Panathinaikos at the Toumba Stadium, but failed to convert their chances and had to settle for a goalless draw on Matchday 4 of the 2024-25 Stoiximan Super League.

Razvan Lucescu’s side entered the pitch with energy and in high spirits, took control of possession and penned Panathinaikos in their own half for long spells, with the Greens having just two notable moments in front of goal during the entire first half, first with Tete, whose shot was blocked by Kotarski and then with Pelistri, who did not find the target with his effort.

On the other hand, the Double-headed Eagle had many important chances in the first half to find the net. In the 11th minute, visiting ‘keeper Dragovski made an excellent save from Schwab’s shot from inside the penalty area after an incredible team effort.

In the 14th minute Chalov then threatened with a shot but found the Panathinaikos ‘keeper again in good form. In the 18th minute Chalov again got his foot to the ball to direct a pass to Ozdoev who could only send his effort wide.

Konstantelias then took the baton and had two good moments, but the 0-0 scoreline remained intact up until half-time.

In the second half chances were less frequent, with both teams being more cautious and not taking risks. In the 67th minute, Panathinaikos threatened via Tete, but Kotarski pushed the ball away, while as the phase progressed, PAOK countered and Schwab had a nice shot on target, but Dragovski had the answer.

The two coaches made their moves from the bench, PAOK stil had possession and control, however. Mady Kamara could not convert from a good position, with Dragovski making a good save, while Kotarski blocked Ioannidis’s effort from a good position in what was the last phase of the match.

Team lineups:

PAOK: Kotarski, Otto, Kedziora, Michailidis, Baba, Schwab (Kamara 76′), Ozdoev, Taison, Konstantelias (Despodov 76′), A.Zivkovic (Shoretire 88′), Chalov (Samatta 66′).

Panathinaikos: Dragovski, Vagiannidis, Jedvai, Ingason, Mladenovic, Arao, Maksimovic, Bakasetas (Djuricic 78′), Tete (Unahi 78′), Pelistri (Mancini 78′), Ioannidis.
