PAOK lose it all in two crazy minutes

27.10.2024

PAOK somehow contrived to lose a game in which they were in total control having taken a first-half lead, as a lackadaisical two-minute spell saw them sliump to a surprise defeat by OFI at the Toumba Stadium.

With fresh faces in the starting lineup and Razvan Lucescu in the stands due to suspension, PAOK entered the pitch to impose their tempo from the start and succeeded to a large extent, without however managing to become much of a threat towards the opposition goal.

A header by Stefan Schwab in the 12th minute after a cross from Despodov was the best that the hosts had to show in the first 20 minutes. In the 21st minute, Giannis Konstantelias then hit the post with a shot, while Mr.Breeze also saw Christogeorgos block his effort in the 28th minute, while he did the same in the 32nd minute with Omar Colley’s header, only for Kiril Despodov to provide the solution in the 36th minute.

The Bulgarian winger sent the ball into the back of net with an improbable direct free-kick to put PAOK in front. Before the end of the first half Schwab had another great chance, but his shot went wide.

PAOK started the second half well and in the 48th minute they threatened via Thomas Murg, but his shot was saved by Christogeorgos, while in the same minute Tissoudali found the net after a cross from Jonny Otto , but the goal was disallowed for a borderline offside decision.

PAOK then managed the game well, but OFI, after making some changes, picked up the pace, became threatening and managed to produce a major upset within two minutes. In the 77th minute Salcedo found Fountas who made it 1-1 with a prodded effort, and two minutes later Salcedo scored from the rebound after Kotarski’s save to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

For the rest of the match the home side penned OFI in their own half, but they did not manage to find an equalizing goal and left the pitch empty-handed.

Team lineups:

PAOK: Kotarski, Otto, Lovren, Colley, Gomez (Baba 80′), Schwab (Kamara 76′), Ozdoev, Konstantelias (Taison 67′), Murg, Despodov (A.Zivkovic 76′), Tisundali (Brandon 67′).

OFI: Christogeorgos, Marinakis (Gonzales 63′), Hatzitheodoridis, Christopoulos, Lambropoulos, Bainovic (Bakic63′), Karachalias, Fountas (Neira 86′), Apostolakis (Riera 63′), Shengelia, Jung (Calcedo 74′).
