Match Report

Three-point haul with a bit of history

16.02.2025

PAOK were a joy to behold at the Toumba Stadium against Lamia, putting on an excellent display of football in the rain and celebrating a historic three points, with a thumping 7-0 win setting a new record for the club’s biggest victory in the domestic championship. On what was a grand day, Giannis Konstantelias scored a hat-trick, and there were also goals for Fedor Chalov and Andrija Zivkovic on their return from injuries.

The fact that all of their title rivals around them had won their games put extra pressure on the team for this match, and made the victory even more imperative. But PAOK were in determined mood on Sunday night in rainy Thessaloniki, had a clear plan, showed confidence, and regisered a comfortable victory, while also playing some excellent football.

The hosts threatened from early on with a shot by Konstandelias after seven minutes from inside the penalty area, before Raton then stopped both Baba and Despodov.  Tsiftsis then showed good reactions at the other end to deny two threats from Lamia, before the breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Samatta opened the scoring, and paved the way for victory.

Konstantelias procued a wonderful lobbed pass for Sastre to get in behind the visiting defense, the Spaniard crossed for Samatta and the striker made it 1-0 with a shot on the move.

Twelve minutes later, Konstantelias received the ball from Baba outside the penalty area, brought it forward and then with a wonderful finish made it 2-0. Lamia tried to respond and had two good moments but Tshibola could not take advantage of and the teams went into the dressing rooms at half-time with the score at 2-0 to PAOK.

PAOK started the second half in the ideal way. In the 51st minute, Baba found Konstantelias and he finished on the move to make it 3-0. But Mr. Breeze had not finished there. In the 59th minute, he received another assist from Baba and with a perfect finish made it 4-0.

Razvan Lucescu then refreshed his team, threw Andrija Zivkovic and Fedor Chalov into the game, with both players making returns from injuries, and the only thing left to see was if more goals could be added.

In the 72nd minute, PAOK circulated the ball brilliantly and Sastre served up an assit for Chalov , who made it 5-0 with a magical backheel finish. In the 78th minute, Baba scored with a right foot-ed shot on the move from outside the penalty area, but the referee and the VAR chalked up the effort for an offside on Kamara.

Zivkovic also got his name on the scoresheet. In the 86th minute, Shola Shoretire challenged for an aerial ball inside the penalty area and the ball ended up at Chalov’s feet. He passed to his Serbian teammate, who made it 6-0 with a powerful shot.

The epilogue of the match was written by Dimitris Pelkas and Shoretire . The Joker produced an incredible pass for Shoretire and he added the seventh goal with a perfectly placed effort.

And so, PAOK beat Lamia comfortably, registering the club’s largest league victory in history in the process, and the Double-headed Eagle now turns their attention to Bucharest, where they will try to overturn the 2-1 first-leg defeat and qualify for the Round of 16 of the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League.
