PAOK march on
It would be easy for PAOK to take this game lightly and perhaps slip up. After all, it is always difficult adapting back from European to domestic football. However, Razvan Lucescu’s team have shown that they are in determined mood this srason, and are now seemingly managing everything perfectly.
The hosts started the match with the intention of dominating and succeeded to an absolute extent from the start. Although PAOK struggled to create chances in the early stages, they had all the possession and control of the match. Lucescu’s team gradually picked up the pace, and threatened through Taison and Brandon , before Ioannis Konstantelias opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.
Taison was the initiator, carrying the ball forward before offloading it at the right moment to Mr. Breeze and he controlled it first before then applying a clinical finish to give the opposing goalkeeper no chance.
In the 26th minute, Koselev saved Brandon’s shot, after an improbable backheel by Schwab. Then in the 35th minute, Koselev and Tzanetopoulos prevented Brandon and Despodov for scoring. Moments later in the 41st minute, Sastre attempted a shot on goal which went narrowly wide.
PAOK found a second goal before the half-time break, however. Brandon crossed from the left, Lamia’s defense failed to clear the ball, and it ended up at the feet of Rafa Soares who made it 2-0 with a cool finish.
Lamia tried to mount a response at the beginning of the second half, but the home side did not allow them any time and space, apart from some long-range shots that Kotarski had no problem dealing with.
In the 57th minute, the Double-headed Eagle then wrapped up the match by making it 3-0. Konstantelias produced an impressive run, then set up Sastre who scored to give his team a three-goal lead with a perfect finish.
The rest of the match was procedural in nature, with Lamia failing to threaten at any point, while PAOK had the luxury of missing a few further important opportunities to extend the winning margin.
Among the highlights of the match was also the debut of Marcos Antonio, who got his first competitive minutes in a black and white shirt.
The next challenge for PAOK is the next Thursday’s (07.12) against NFC Volos at the Toumba in the Greek Cup.
