Match Report

Simple, easy, and beautiful

21.02.2021

PAOK did not give Lamia a look-in on Sunday and at times the Double-headed Eagle were irresistable, creating chances at will and playing some excellent football en route to a commanding 4-0 win over their Super League rivals from Fthiotida on Matchday 23 of the 2020-21 Super League Interwetten.

The big question before kick-off was how the Double-headed Eagle’s defensive line would fair without the likes of Crespo , Ingason and Vieirinha.

The coaching staff gave a starting berth to newcomer Rahman Baba , whiler Varela and Michailidis returned in the center of defence. The rest of the lineup was the same as that which faced PAS Giannina last weekend in Peristeri.

From the opening minute, PAOK made their intentions clear to their opponents, pushing forward and looking for a route to goal by creating chances.

Lamia lasted until the 18th minute. It was at that point when Tzolis produced a brilliant pass for Baba, who calmly slotted home with a side-footed effort to celebrate a goal on his debut for the Double-headed Eagle.

PAOK continued to push for more goals up until the half-time break, missing a clutch of opportunities, the best of which fell to Krmencik after 42 minutes. However, the Czech forward was denied by Katsikas’ impressive save. Lamia, meanwhile, simply could not find a way through to threaten the home goal.

In the second half, the Double-headed Eagle needed just six minutes to kill the game off and wrap up the three points. In the 48th minute, Tzolis latched on to a neat pass from Andrija Zivkovic and finished well to make it 2-0, while just three minutes later, Rodrigo teed up Warda to score his team’s third goal of the afternoon with a shot from inside the penalty area.

In the 64th minute, A. Zivkovic then sent a volley onto the woodwork after a precise cross from Lamprou , but a minute later the Serb was not to be denied, scoring to make it 4-0 with a clinical effort following an assist from Swiderski .

There were still chances for more goals until the full-time whistle blew, but the score remained unchanged and PAOK claimed the three-points with consumate ease, climbing up to second place in the process. The team now turn their collective attention to the next match against Asteras in Tripoli on Matchday 24.

Team lineups:

PAOK: Zivkovic, Rodrigo (73′ Lyratzis ), Varela, Michailidis, Baba, TsingarasSchwab (73′ Ninua ), A. Zivkovic, Warda (62′ Kagawa ), Tzolis (55′ Lamprou ), Krmencik .

Lamia: Katsikas, Vlachos, Vyntra, James (52’ Saramantas), Asigba, Bouloulis (59’ Guga), Bjarnason, Providakis, Ghazaryan (74’ Nikolopoulos), Piti (74’ Chatzistravos), Ba (46’ Vlachomitros).
