Three points for PAOK in Super League primiere
PAOK defeated Larissa 1-0 at the Toumba Stadium in its Super League Interwetten season 2020-21 premiere courtesy of a goal from Christos Tziolus.
Abel Ferreira’s PAOK lined up with same ‘recipe’ as against Besiktas, with Biseswar starting on the right wing.
The Double-headed Eagle produced a whirlwind of a start, creating several opportunities, finding the net with a wonderful goal early on. Biseswar produced an excellent cross for Tziolis, who scored with a stunning finish to beat Nagy and make it 1-0.
Ans as the match wore on, the visiting goalkeeper was the key protagonist of the match. Nagy made several important saves, with PAOK wasting a host of scoring chances, with Akpom guilty of missing the best of the bunch in the second half.
For their part, Larissa were content to defend and try to strike on the counter-attack, and the visitors did fashion two very good opportunities, one at the end of each half. But they failed to capitalize on either of those chances and the score remained 1-0 until referee Tsagarakis’ final whistle.
Ferreira also handed Andrija Zivkovic his debut with the Serbian coming off the bench, while Jose Crespo also returned to competitive action after almost nine months sidelined due to injury.
Everyone’s attention in the Dougle-headed Eagle camp now turns to the crucial game against Benfica in the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
