Match Report

Composed and consistent

28.02.2024

PAOK showed their professionalism in another away game on Wednesday (28.02), not giving Panserraikos the chance to threaten en route to securing a 2-0 win in Serres on Matchday 25 of the 2023-24 Stoiximan Super League.

On a hard and bumpy playing surface that did not help either side in their mission to play good football, Razvan Lucescu’s team kept their composure, stuck to their gameplan, showed patience and got another important victory.

PAOK came to town to play their football and imposed their tempo on proceedings from the start, having the majority of possession and controlling the match for most of it.

Despite this, the Double-headed Eagle found it tough to break down the opposing defense, with two efforts from Konstantelias that missed the target. However, at the third time of asking, Mr.Breeze did not miss.

After a good piece of team play down the left, Konstantelias evaded Diamantis and with a wonderful finish made it 1-0 in first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, the pattern of play did not change. Panserraikos had their best moment in the 58th minute, but Z.Zivkovic was there to save the effort, while a little later Chovan responded at the other end with an improbable save from Despodov’s shot.

In the 69th minute Moreira was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for elbowing Schwab . PAOK tried to capitalize on the numerical advantage, but Chovan made another great save, again from Despodov. Panserraikos then went down to nine men in the 83rd minute when Deligiannidis was dismissed for an awful challenghe on Taison.

PAOK sealed the three points in the 90th minute, with Rafa Soares sending over a dangerous cross that Petavrakis diverted into his own net as he struggled to deal with clearing it.

Team lineups:

Panserraikos: Chovan, Diamantis, Thymianis (24′ Bergström), Deligiannidis, Petavrakis, Oikonomou (65′ Staikos), Moreira, Pileas (66′ Sofianos), Dankerlui, Warda, Wooleri.

PAOK: Z.Zivkovic, Vieirinha (73′ Rafa Soares), Kedziora, Nasberg, Otto, Schwab (91′ Tsingaras), Ozdoev (63′ Marcos Antonio), Despodov, Murg (63′ Taison), Konstantelias, Samatta (73′ Brandon).
