Second qualification within a week
With a dazzling performance, PAOK thrashed Panelefsiniakos 7-0 and qualified for the last 16 stage of the Greek Cup.
Combining substance and spectacular plays, the “Two-Headed Eagle” recorded a 7-0 win over Panelefsiniakos that secured them top spot in their group and a place in the seeded teams’ pot of the upcoming draw.
PAOK took control of proceedings right from the start and had their first opportunity to take the lead in the 8th minute, with Stelios Malezas’s header flying just wide. Two minutes later, Facundo Pereyra missed his close-range shot.
Dimitris Pelkas wasted a glorious chance for the opener in the 18h minute, when his shot grazed the crossbar. The same player misplaced his drive three minutes later, despite having the goal at his mercy.
PAOK’s dominance was overwhelming, with their possession reaching 80%, however they were struggling with their finishing. Woodwork was also giving them a hard time. Giannis Mystakidis’s point-blank shot, following a header by Yevhen Shakhov, was saved by the post in the 32nd minute.
Five minutes later, a powerful long-range shot by Shakhov was pushed away by Panelefsiniakos’s goalkeeper, who intervened in the 43rd minute as well, with a spectacular save to prevent Pelkas from netting the opener. Despite bombarding their opponent’s goal and having 11 shots on goal, PAOK couldn’t break the deadlock in the first half.
After the interval, everything changed within three minutes. In the 49th minute, Panagiotis Deligiannidis produced the cross from the left and Stefanos Athanasiadis made it 1-0 with a header from close range. An identical goal by Pereyra doubled PAOK’s lead two minutes later.
In the 58th minute, Shakhov collected the rebound from a shot by Pelkas and got on the scorers’ sheet as well. In the 70th minute, Mystakidis made it 4-0 taking advantage of a loose ball following a shot by Shakhov.
Five minutes later, Efthymis Koulouris made it 5-0 with a shot from close range, after Mystakidis had a shot on post. After several failed attempts, Pelkas got the goals he was craving for: in the 77th minute with a fine individual effort and in the final minute of the encounter with a well-taken drive.
