Two points dropped
PAOK seemed bereft of energy and ideas in Lamia and paid for it, as they dropped two valuable points in the battle for the title, drawing 1-1 with the Fthiotida club ahead of a tough series of derbies at the Toumba, which will decide everything.
PAOK came into the game determined, willing to move the ball around and to a large extent succeeded. But they struggled to pose a serious threat, apart from in the seventh minute with Marcos Antonio’s set piece and in the 16th minute with Despodov’s run and cross. In the 26th minute, Konstantelias also did not manage to score from a good position. That was followed by a good header by Ozdoev in the 29th minute and another by Kedziora in the 46th minute, which was saved by by Koselef.
At the same time, of course, Lamia defended deep, trying to keep PAOK away from their goal, while on two occasions when they launched dangerous counter attacks, they showed themselves capable of hurting the visitors. As it happened, in the fourth minute of added time at teh end of teh first half, the home side did take the lead with Slivka’s powerful shot from inside the penalty area.
In the second half, PAOK could not find a reaction, at least a rational one, despite the fact that they fought until the last second. If we leave out the 47th-minute phase of play, when Konstantelias lanched a counter attack and passed to Samatta , who lost control of the ball, there were few other significant threats.
It’s worth mentioning that Brandon missed a header in the 58th minute, as did Michailidis in the 74th minute. Of course, PAOK managed to find more energy after some substitutions ( Baba for Rafa Soares in the 56th minute, Taison for Konstantelias, Brandon for Samatta , Otto for Sastre in the 68th minute, and Murg for Ozdoev in the 75th minuute), however, they did not really threaten. Just when it seemed that they were heading for defeat though, PAOK did manage to salvage a point with a goal in the 99th minute, with Schwab the man on target with a header, after Despodov’s cross from the right.
With four games left, PAOK has no choice but to put their heads down, work, find what they lack on the field and fight hard until the finale.
