Match Report

A step towards qualification in Athens

30.10.2024

On a playing surface that was suitable for anything but football, PAOK produced a solid away performance that gave Aigaleo no room to manoeuvre, winning 3-0 to take an important step to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup.

The Double-headed Eagle started the match strongly, and threatened early on in the fourth minute with Shoretire trying a shot on the turn, while in the 14th minute the visitors took the lead.

Andrija Živković executed an impressive free-kick goallwards, and the ball came back off the post after the home ‘keeper got a hadn on it, but Kamara was there to head the ball into the net to make it 1-0.

PAOK continued to press, and Bakayoko and Chalov both missed good chances, before Shoretire made it 2-0 with a nice finish after an assist from Chalov in the 39th minute, with the teams going into the dressing rooms at half-time shortly afterwards.

The visitors started the second half in a similar vein to the first, and in the 54th minute they made it 3-0 with their first chance, Murg scoring after a poor clearance from the home defence.

In the 61st minute, PAOK were, however, reduced to 10 players after Michailidis was sent off for a foul committed just outside the penalty area.

For the rest of the match that remained, PAOK managed proceedings flawlessly, and they even had the luxury of missing another great opportunity to extend their lead with Konstantelias the man who could not convert his chance. It mattered little, however, as PAOK left Athens with a significant lead in the tie ahead of the second leg at the Toumba Stadium.

Team lineups:

Aigaleo: Kyritsis, Evangelou, Karriki (63′ Liofagos), Kostopoulos, Ungialidis (46′ Tatsis), Tampas (46′ Borgiazidis), Bardas, Babis, Varkas (46′ Dritsas), Nikoli, Tsoukalos (46′ Fofana).

PAOK: Pavlenka, Vieirinha, Gomez, Kedziora, Michailidis, Kamara, Bakayoko (78’Schwab), Murg (65′ Thymianis), A. Zivkovic (78′ Konstantelias), Shoretire (73′ Despodov), Chalov (65′ Samatta).
