PAOK’s shirt is getting heavier
They were already eliminated and were facing one of the favourites to win the trophy, in one of the hottest grounds of Europe… However PAOK remained unfazed and celebrated a most emphatic win that stands out in their European history.
Dortmund surrendered to the visitors and their fans. It’s a tale of many separate heroic stories. From the stunning goal of Róbert Mak, to the interventions of Panagiotis Glykos who played through pain having severed this quadriceps. From Alexandros Tziolis’s and Stelios Malezas’s cool blood to the dynamism of Giorgos Tzavellas, the untiring lungs of Ergys Kace and Gojko Cimirot, the quality of Dimitris Konstantinidis, the enthusiasm of Giannis Mystakidis, the focus of Giannis Skondras and the class of Dimitar Berbatov. Regarding the latter, there were some wise guys suggesting that he faked injury…
But these wise guys have no place in our beautiful tale today, nor in PAOK’s huge history! Those who are entitled of a preferential place are the 5.000 supporters who didn’t stop chanting for one minute, leaving the home crowd with the mouth open.
Unfortunately PAOK are reliminated. But they belong in stadia such as the “Signal Iduna Park”, celebrating such victories. PAOK’s shirt is heavy and is getting heavier after nights like this, after victories like the 1-0 over Borussia Dortmund.
