PAOK show some steel in Peristeri
Against a team that played with everyone behind the ball and did everything they could to try and stop PAOK from playing their game, the visitors did not lose their focus and celebrated a great three-point haul, beating Atromitos 2-0 in Athens.
It was a difficult mission from the beginning in Peristeri. Atromitos is always a tough opponent, a well organized team, especially at home. So all of PAOK’s players had to dig in for a battle.
The Double-headed Eagle started the match excellently, taking complete control and started to create a flurry of chances in the first half, but the goal did not come.
Brandon and Taison were both denied by the woodwork in the fifth and 18th minutes respectively, while in the 42nd minute, Ozdoev found the net after a free-kick taken by A.Zivkovic, but VAR intervened to disallow the goal, without anyone understanding why, even with the lines drawn that seemed inconclusive.
The pattern of the match did not change in the second half. As time passed, PAOK increased their pressure on the hosts, and had several good moments, but they had to fight until added time to be vindicated for their performance.
Konstantelias executed a corner in the 90th minute, sending a short pass to Taison, who send over a cross which was headed on by Schwab. The ball found its way to Samatta, who liad it off for the Austrian to score with a powerful shot.
Atromitos went up the other end in a rare moment when they committed players forward in search of a leveller, and PAOK punished them with a second goal on the counter-attack. Konstantelias took the ball after a mistake by the opposition defence and made the final score 2-0 with a long-range shot.
