Four goals, another three points, and on we go...

17.12.2023

Razvan Lucescu’s PAOK continued their impressive form this season to come away from Tripoli with an important away win, beating Asteras 4-1 on Matchday 14 of the 2023-24 Stoiximan Super League.

The Double-headed Eagle squad traveled to Arcadia with some key absentees, as Taison and A.Zivkovic were both out of action, but that didn’t stop them from producing an excellent attacking display, and leaving what is traditionally a tough venue for PAOK with a valuable three-point haul.

The hosts were the ones who threatened first, with Kotarski saving a shot by Munafos in the fifth minute, and then again a minute later from Kaltsas, while Alagbe also hit the woodwork afterwards, but PAOK quickly responded and started to threaten the home goal.

Tripolis ‘keeper Papadopoulos saved a header from Koulierakis in the 21st minute, only for Murg to find a way through the hosts’ defence in the 34th minute.

Konstantelias fired a shot goalwards initially, but the ball riocheted off a defender before falling kindly for the Austrian, and he rounded the opposing goalkeeper and found the back of the net.

PAOK then thought they had gone two goals ahead four minutes later, but Samatta’s ‘goal’ was ruled out for offside, and the teams went into the dressing rooms at half-time with PAOK 1-0 up.

The start of the second half was excellent for the visitors. In the 53rd minute, Samatta found Despodov with a brilliant cross and the Bulgarian made it 2-0 to PAOK with a shot on the move.

Asteras responded in the 63rd minute via Dzukanovic to make it 2-1 and gave new interest to the match, which, however, actually only lasted six minutes.

Samatta stole possession high up the pithc, tried to go past Papadopoulos, but the home ‘keeper blocked his effort. However, the ball ended up at the feet of Murg once more and he kept his cool to send the ball into the net for 3-1.

PAOK did not stop there, though, as they continued to press forward and in the 90th minute a fourth goal duly arrived. Tzimas, who came off the bench, made a great run and cross for Despodov who was in the right position to round off the scoring.

Team lineups:

Asteras Tripolis: Papadopoulos, Carmona, Kastanio, Djukanovic, Alvares, Alagbe, Munafos (Vayende 76′), Kaltsas, Zouglis (Mantsis 76′), Bartolo (Gos 27′), Miritelo (Sito 76′).

PAOK: Kotarski, Vieirinha (Sastre 73′), Kedziora, Koulierakis, Baba, Schwab, Ozdoev (Meite 73′), Despodov, Murg, Konstantelias (Brandon 81′), Samatta (Tzimas 89′).
