A first defeat after 11 games
PAOK failed to take advantage of their periods of dominance, and although the Double-headed Eagle did not give up the game until the last seconds, they suffered a first defeat after 11 games as Aris prevailed 2-1 against Razvan Lucescu’s team at the «Kleanthis Vikelidis». PAOK must now rally and produce the same reaction the team did after their previous defeat next time out.
The first half went passed by without any major chances in front of either goal. PAOK had the lion’s share of possession and control of the match, while Aris, in contrast, were penned in their own half and looked to score on the counter-attack.
The Double-headed Eagle threatened on two occasions, initially with a header from Brandon , after Vieirinha’s cross, while Koulierakis also went close with a header after Despodov’s corner.
The home side, for their part, had a good moment on the counter-attack, with Moron shaping up to shoo from a good position, but Vieirinha intervened to deny him with a last-ditch block.
The start of the second half was a disappointing one for Razvan Lucescu’s team. Aris took the lead through Suleymanov just a few seconds after the kikc-off, while in the 59th minute Saveiro then gave the hosts a two-goal lead with a shot from inside the area.
PAOK took some time to recover from that setback, Lucescu made his moves from the bench, and in the 74th minute his team managed to reduce the deficit through Baba who converted Schwab’s cross.
The visitors looked for the equalizer until the last seconds, pressing well. But they missed two great chances via Sastre and Schwab , and did not manage to leave the «Kleanthis Vikelidis» with a positive result.
