And the streak goes on…
PAOK had substance in their game and managed to add another win to their tally without facing complications.
Răzvan Lucescu’s troops created many goal chances, with the scorers of the encounter against Levadiakos on target again.
PAOK first created danger on the 14th minute, when Maurício sent a defence-splitting pass to Efthymis Koulouris, the latter’s close-range shot forcing a difficult save from Koutzavasilis.
AOK Kerkyra were clearly interested only in keeping a clean sheet. They were camped in their own half, looking for the occasional counter.
The “Double-Headed Eagle” scored their opener in the 23rd minute from a set piece, with one of the “usual suspects”. Léo Matos netted from the far post, taking the assist from Adelino Vieirinha .
Falling behind messed with the home side’s defensive focus and, even without performing their best football, PAOK managed to created more chances through Dimitris Pelkas , Koulouris and Vieirinha. But the scoreline didn’t change until the interval.
The Corfu outfit were livelier in the second half, tried to gain yards on the pitch, but PAOK found a way to finish off the game. In the 58th minute, Djalma Campos fired a lobbed shot from a tough angle to beat Koutzavasilis.
After the Angolan player’s goal, the game pace increased as AOK Kerkyra charged forward for a goal that would get them in the game again. However PAOK got on target again.
Pelkas received the ball in the area, fought off two defenders and Koutzavasilis, escaped them with a swift move to make it 3-0 in the 78th minute.
In the 81st minute, Alexandros Paschalakis and his defenders stopped Thuram with a double effort. In the final minutes of the encounter, PAOK wasted more chances for a larger victory. Maurício hit the woodwork with a direct free-kick and also misplaced a shot from close range. Róbert Mak went close twice, but couldn’t score. Pelkas also saw his fine lob graze the crossbar.
Lucescu’s troops secured the three-pointer in Corfu, their 8th consecutive victory in all competitions and lead the Super League Souroti standings, level with AEK Athens, waiting for Olympiacos’s Monday result.
