A tough start…
After the final whistle in the 0-0 draw against SKODA Xanthi, PAOK fans warmly applauded the players for their effort. However the team didn’t reach the high standards of recent performances.
Against a rival that had planned to escape undefeated from Toumba, the replenished starting of Igor Tudor enjoyed their share of goalscoring chances. Despite not getting threatened at all from SKODA Xanthi, PAOK failed to find their pace because of Xanthi’s attitude to provoke several unneeded breaks to the game.
Fielding newcomers Marin Leovac, Gojko Cimirot, Erik Sabo, Jairo and Garry Rodrigues provided fresh legs to the team, but at the expense of the automatisms and coherence displayed by PAOK in their European encounters.
At times, Róbert Mak (especially in the 22nd and 24th minute) and very lively Jairo would lay the ground for goals, while Sabo also came close in the second half with a powerful shot. However PAOK players were lacking finishing and the final 0-0 leaves them unsatisfied, yet optimistic ahead of upcoming encounters.
