Match Report

Smooth sailing

20.03.2016

It was a beautiful afternoon in Toumba for the PAOK faithful who watched their team prevail 3-0 over AEL Kalloni. The “Double-Headed Eagle” made the most of the other matchday 27 results and also confirmed their rise after the coaching change.

PAOK kicked off proceedings with a clear objective: dominate the encounter, keep the ball and patiently look for ways to break into Dafkos’s area. However AEL Kalloni defended in numbers and there were no chances created in the first 25 minutes.

It was apparent though that PAOK’s recon game wouldn’t last for long. Boosted by the fans’ chants, the players stepped on the throttle and a fine combination in the 28th minute broke the deadlokc. Ergys Kace and Giannis Skondras initiated play, Charis Charisis charged into the area from the right and teed up Giannis Mystakidis perfectly for the opener.

After the interval, Vladan Ivić’s troops fired on all cylinders and became even more dangerous. Functioning to perfection from the flanks and adopting a more vertical attacking style, they went after a second goal to seal their victory.

A beautiful move and a textbook cross by Marin Leovac gave Stefanos Athanasiadis the opportunity to score his 11th league goal of the season with his “trademark” one-touch style!

Just as he did in Agrinio, Nikos Korovesis came off the bench and sealed PAOK 3-0 victory.

PAOK comfirmed their return to form, combining good displays and positive results in the most crucial part of the season. Vladan Ivić celebrated his first win as coach before the Toumba crowd while also revealing his football philosophy.

Line-ups:

PΑΟΚ: Vellidis, Τzavellas, Skondras, Leovac (79′ Malezas), Vítor, Tziolis, Κace, Charisis (60′ Κorovesis), Pelkas, Μystakidis (67′ Rodrigues), Αthanasiadis

AEL Kalloni: Dafkos, Ukah, Golias, Mikić, Τsampouris (79′ Gioukaris), Κaltsas, Blažić, Μanousos, Marković (61′ Xydas), Favalli (64′ Spyropoulos), Georgiou.
