PAOK kicked off their season with four August matches, resulting in two victories, one draw and one –harmless- defeat. Despite their mediocre start against Zimbru in Chișinău and versus AEL Kalloni, the “Double-Headed Eagle” passed the hurdles in flying colours, proving that they have the character and the potential –they just need time to blend and get their rhythm in order.
The official site of PAOK, paokfc.gr, hands you the opportunity to vote for PAOK’s MVP in those four games. The first candidate is Stefanos Athanasiadis, who started the season in fine form, scoring twice and serving one assist in three games. Klaus put on a considerable defensive effort with his relentless pressing on the rivals, while also displaying playmaking skills in the second leg against Zimbru, featuring behind Facundo Pereyra as attacking midfielder for large portions of the game.
The Argentinian forward is candidate No 2 for the MVP honours. His vast knowledge of the game and positioning instincts see him involved in most plays. The 27-year old player is already impressing with two goals and one assist in his first two appearances in the starting line-up.
Róbert Mak also scored twice and deservedly gets nominated for the MVP award. Apart from his goals versus Zimbru and Platanias, the Slovak attacking midfielder teed up Pereyra against AEL Kalloni and served an impressing vertical pass to Skondras for his goal.
This goal was Giannis Skondras’ first in his career at PAOK. The 24-year old defender has kicked off the season firing all cylinders, featuring as central defender or in his natural right back position.
Last but not least in our list of candidates for the August MVP award is Răzvan Raț. Renowned in Europe, this left full-back was signed by PAOK to cover the void left by the departure of their 2013-14 season MVP, Lino. The Romanian is a different type of player than the Brazilian, but his performances so far and his participation in the team’s attacking deployment are becoming increasingly influential for PAOK. He already has two assists to his name, while also initiating two plays that led to goals.
