Title party at the Toumba for Under-17s

PAOK’s Under-17 side have already celebrated their second consecutive league title, their sixth overall, and first in the pan-Hellenic format. And all this with three matchdays to spare. The trophy presentation ceremony will take place at the Toumba Stadium on Holy Wednesday (16.04) after the end of the match against Panathinaikos (13:00) for the 17th matchday of the Super League. After that, there is one game left, an away match against Volos.

15.04.2025

This Under-17 squad is comprised of the generation of 2008 (champions with the Under-15s), plus some youngsters born in 2009 (champions also in the 2003-04 season as Under-15s). The team’s coach is Dimitris Orfanos, who also won the championship of this age category last season with the generation of 2007 (now in the Under-19s) and with his co-coach Stelios Bikas. This season he has achieved back-to-back title wins with co-coach Antonis Krinitsas.

As it is well known, a long-term goal for the PAOK Academy is the gradual promotion of younger players to the older age groups, hence the very low average ages of our groups. It is characteristic that in this year’s Under-17s, players born in 2009 (who belong to the Under-16 category in terms of age) played an important role, such as Kalpakis, Souvlatzis, Matera, and Chaldezos, while the younger Lazaridis and Bouklas also participated.

It is worth recalling that Souvlatzis, Matera, Chaldezos and Kalpakis have already signed their first professional contracts. Also from this squad, Gioka, Krommydas, Papadopoulos, Kyriazidis, and Aretis turned professional, while Berdos renewed his contract until 2027. Especially as far as Berdos is concerned, this season … he was divided between the Under-19s and the Under-17s, with who he played seven times as a starter with three goals and one assist to his name.

Regarding the top 5 of the basic statistics, so far, Papadopoulos has 24 appearances, Aretis 23, Avgitidis 22, Maligin 20 and Gioka and Christodoulou have 19 each. In minutes of participation, Papadopoulos is first with 1,955, Aretis is second with 1,890 and is followed by Avgitidis with 1,860, Maligin with 1,800 and Gioka with 1,578 minutes.

In goals, Aretis and Souvlatzis lead with 11 and are followed by Gioka with seven, Krommydas with six, Economou with four and Berdos, Avgitidis, and Kalpakis with three.

In assists, Aretis has nine, Krommydas seven, Gioka five and Chaldezos and Souvlatzis four each.

  • For the first time in the history of the institution, the Super League decided to organize a single pan-Hellenic championship in the Under-17 category, which concerns exclusively Super League 1 teams, resulting in a clearly more competitive championship with more tougher games.
  • In this age category, from the 2008-09 season until now, Olympiacos has won seven championships, PAOK six and Panathinaikos, Xanthi and Aris have one each.

It should be emphasized that entry to the Toumba Stadium will be exclusively through invitations.
