PAOK B slip to late defeat [with pictures]
Despite showing character, quality and youthful enthusiasm, 10-man PAOK B finally succumbed to a 3-2 away defeat by Niki Volos on Matchday 13 of Super League 2 and remained stuck on 13 points.
The hosts started the game better, and they went ahead in the 11th minute with a well-taken penalty kick from Miranda. PAOK‘s second string put in the effort, but could not respond until the 35th minute, when mainly through Tzimas, Goumas and Darelas, the visitors began to pose a threat. The pressure paid off in the 41st minute with Goumas winning a free-kick thanks a fine piece of individual play, and Ninua sending over the set-piece for Darelas to head home and equalize.
Although in the second half PAOK B started to show more confidence, they were dealt a blow early on, in the 48th minute, when Tsopouroglou was sent off after picking up a second yellow card. Alexiadis’ team did not show any fear, though, and in the 51st minute they took the lead with Darelas passing to Tzimas, who applied the finish. Tzimas then had the opportunity to score another goal, but unfortunately he failed to convert his chance and then the hosts scored against the run of play to pull level at 2-2 with Politis in the 61st minute the man on target.
The pace then became frenetic, and the match was constantly interrupted by fouls and protests. The match was tense at that point, and then Niki Volos struck a killer blow in the 88th minute with Miranda scoring to make it 3-2. PAOK B chased an equalizing goal right up until the final whistle, but in the end they could not break through again and suffered a narrow defeat. The team must now pick themselves up for the next challenge against Apollon Pontou.
