A European champion at the Toumba [with pictures]
The Toumba Stadium opened its doors but this time not for football. The headquarters of PAOK welcomed Anastasia Avramidou, for a special chess tournament.
Anastasia, holder of the FIDE female international meter (wim) title, a two-time European champion and key member of the Greek women’s national team, accepted the invitation of AS PAOK’s chess club for a simultane match.
The members of the Double-headed Eagle’s Chess Academy had the opportunity to face a world-renowned player, chat with her and learn some of the secrets of the game.
The simultane was held in the presence of the general secretary of the European Chess Federation, Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou, with Anastasia facing 24 players of all ages – all at the same time.
The champion managed to get 23 wins, while one game ended in a draw, although the score in such games is of little importance.
