Under-19 side welcomes 2023 looking down from the high ground…

As much as the club trains and plays in a way that doesn’t prioritize numbers at youth level, at the PAOK Academy we do still measure championships and it would be hypocritical to claim that we ignore them. The Under-19 side closes out the first half of the season being at the top of the Super League championship with 36 points from 13 games, eight points ahead of Olympiacos and 12 ahead of last year’s champions, Panathinaikos.

27.12.2022

PAOK’s «oldest» youngsters have recorded 12 wins and one loss. Although cautious, we dare to say that the team is consistently heading for the eighth league championship title in their history for this particular age group. They already have seven, compared to Olympiakos’ six, Panathinaikos and Xanthi’s three, and Aris’ two. Before the current champions Panathinaikos (season 2021-22), the Double-headed Eagle had counted four consecutive championships, which included an unimaginable undefeated streak.

The current season’s Under-19s are youngsters born in 2004 and 2005, plus some younger ones born in 2006. Those born in 2004 have been crowned champions at Under-15 and Under-17 level, and those from 2005 (plus some from 2006) similarly. They form another batch of promising young footballers who have grown up at PAOK and who, as is well known, make up a large percentage of the respective age groups of our Greece national teams. The top scorer is Gitersos with eight goals, while chief creative players are Goumas and Adam with four assists apiece, and Filon has chalked up the most minutes of participation with 1066.

This season the team also have the opportunity to travel to the Al Abtal tournament in Spain, in which so far they have drawn (2-2) with Villarreal with goals from Gutierrez and Adam, while they have won 2-1 against the White Falcons (goals from Ibrahim and Filon) from Saudi Arabia. On 25.01.23 they will return to Spain to face Newcastle.
