Vieirinha: «We’re going there to win»
Andre Vieirinha gave his thoughts and insights about the upcoming Super League Interwetten Matchday 7 derby clash against Olympiacos to the Novasports cameras. Read the Portuguese’s comments here on paokfc.gr.
On how he wants to finish this week of three matches:
«In the best way, and this will be with a victory over Olympiacos. This is the reason and purpose we are going down to Athens, knowing that it will be a very difficult game. It is a very difficult stadium to get a result. After the game against Volos when we did not play well in the second half and did not get the result that we wanted, I think we responded very well during the European game. The championship though is another game entirely, but we want to be at the top and to be up there we must win.»
On what elements PAOK need to have in order to claim a victory over Olympiacos:
«I think like all derbies, everything is decided in the finer details. Like all derbies, the quality of the two teams are very close to each other. So I think the game will be judged in the minor details. We have to be very focused, to try and not make mistakes. Many of us have played in a lot of derbies and we know what this game means.»
On whether there is room for a surprise:
«Yes, both teams are playing in Europe, so that is a factor also. We always want to play in Europe and we need to rest more because we play games every two or three days. We know that Olympiacos also has a lot of games. It’s the first derby between us this season, and as I said before it will be a difficult game and will definitely be decided by the finer details.»
On PAOK’s current series of six away wins and what it means for him:
«Isn’t it great? This is what we want, we want victories. We work every day and every week for these victories. Sometimes they come, sometimes not, but the work goes on. We have a certain way of thinking and playing and we want to continue like this; to improve day-by-day and game-by-game, and we want to continue this current series of wins.»
Regarding the differences between now and Lucescu’s previous spell at PAOK:
«He is not that different. He is exactly who he was before he left. He has a thirst for victories and titles. He passes on his ideas to the players every day, those things that the older players at the club already know, and we help pass this on to the younger players. His philosophy is to battled hard against every opponen with respect, but definitely always looking for the victory.»
