Ingason: «I’ll come back stronger»
Ingi Ingason shared his thoughts and insights on the upcoming Super League Interwetten match against Panetolikos to the Novasports cameras. The Icelandic defender spoke about his current fitness status, the difficulties he has faced in recovery from injury, and how he is experiencing the season so far.
On how his recovery process is going:
«It has been four months since the day I had the operation. It was a difficult recovery process. In the next 2-3 weeks I will be able to return to full training normally with the squad. For me it was a difficult challenge, a difficult injury, but it has helped me to become stronger and I will come back more prepared.»
On whether he feels like a ‘caged beast’ ready to battle again in a competitive match:
«It is difficult to watch the team training every day and you can not participate or play in matches and you have to watch them from the stands. So far in my career I was lucky that I did not have any serious injuries, but now I had to have this setback. It’s all part of the process of football. I was given the opportunity to work on things I could not afford the time to do when I was playing games. I worked hard and I want to come back stronger now that I am completing my recovery.»
On whether he feels that he wants to thank some people who have been particularly close to him during his rehab period:
«I want to thank all the people at the club. Everyone has helped me a lot. The physiotherapists, the coaching staff, the doctors. I thank them all. They are like my family. It is a difficult time. Some days are good, and some are not. On the difficult days you need people to give you a psychological boost and motivation. This is when we say we are a family and at PAOK it is valid.»
On how he sees the team after the first few games of the season:
«We are in a transition period. A coach has come here who has had a lot of success here in the past. We have to learn and adapt to the new situation. The most important thing is to win games. We did that in the last two matches and now we have an equally difficult game that we want to take advantage of and show that we are on the right track. Whether we have good or bad results, we must keep focsuing on the good work we do, the elements we have as a team and what we need to improve. The team works together fully only during the last 2- 3 weeks because some new faces came in, and because there was a break for the national team games, so we are in the process of learning what the coach wants and as time goes by we will improve.»
