PAOK FC club statement

PAOK FC led the call for foreign referees to be appointed in Greece. Today’s refereeing of Dutchman Bas Nihhuis, however, seems to render them a luxury, since such penalties as the one given tonight could have been invented in the past.

13.12.2020

As the first club to call for the introduction of VAR to correct possible errors, we now understand that in some cases it has a decorative role, when those operating it have different orders.

The Dutchman’s desire to check the penalty with VAR in a hurry even made him decide that Daniel Sundgren was supposedly fouled by Alexandros Paschalakis, who had changed course of the ball, something which even the naked eye could see! He then refused to check the first incident against Tzolis as part of the same phase of play. And he also refused to check the clear handball in the last phase of the match!

From the beginning we supported the presence of foreign referees, and Mr. Clattenberg, and the truth is that we have been patient enough with his strange judgments, which over time are increasingly underestimating our intelligence, something which we recently warned him about.

The above incidents show that what we saw today can not be accidental, after all, with VAR there cannot be a bad moment. It is clearly the most suspicious and probably fixed refereeing we have seen in the Greek championship after that of Spathas at the same stadium. It seems that the players of Aris knew the intentions of the referee, who with humiliating dives blackmailed the referee to award the fouls that he generously gave them.

Therefore, we owe it to ourselves to revoke our confidence in Mr. Clattenberg, who as of today will have to convince us that he is not dreaming of a place on the Nottingham Forest bench.

Until then, he can continue his agricultural efforts in Greece, setting up the new shack.
