Wagué joins PAOK

PAOK FC announces the signing of Moussa Wagué from Barcelona. The Senegalese defender joins the club on loan for the season and his squad number is 18.

21.09.2020

Wagué was born on October 4, 1998 in Bignona, Senegal. He fell in love with football from an early age, playing with his friends in the fields as well as for local teams, until he was discovered by the Aspire Academy, and in 2014 he went to Qatar, where he joined the academy, which specialises in nurturing players from Africa and then promotes them in Europe.

It did not take Moussa long to make the next step. Just two years later, after winning fourth place in the 2015 World Cup with the Senegal Under-20 team, Eupen moved to acquire his signature. He made his official debut in January 2017 and stayed in Belgium for two seasons. Under the guidance of Claude Makelele, he helped the team avoid relegation, playing an important role by making 43 appearances and scoring one goal, while also earning a call-up to his country’s national team.

In the summer of 2018, he was included in Senegal’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia, and in the team’s opening match he made history by scoring to become the youngest African to score in a World Cup.

His achievements did not go unnoticed by Barcelona, who splashed out 5 million euros to sign him.

Wagué initially joined the Barcelona B team, but in March 2019 he played for the first team in the Catalan Super Cup against Girona. He made his official debut with the Blaugrana on April 13 in a La Liga game against Huesca. He made two more appearances up until the final of the season, and in the summer he was officially promoted to the first team.

That was until the end of January 2020, when he was loaned out to Nice. Wagué played three more times for Barça, twice against Dortmund and once against Inter in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Wagué was then unlucky as he started impressively in France with two assists in five appearances, but unfortunately Covid-19 ended up prompting the cancellation of Ligue 1, with the player returning to Barcelona.

And now Barcelona accepted PAOK’s offer for a one-year loan of the Senegalese player and Wagué will be a Double-headed Eagle for the 2020-21 season.

Welcome Moussa!
