On this day: Four-goal comeback en route to the final
On April 27 2017, PAOK defeated Panathinaikos 4-0 at the Toumba Stadium, overturning a two-goal deficit from the first leg clash in Athens and booked their place in the Greek Cup final.
On April 12 2017 PAOK had lost 2-0 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in the first leg of the semi-final tie with the goals coming from Moledo (21’) and Leto (83’), leaving Vladan Ivic’s players with a mountain to climb. But against the odds, 15 days later, the team produced one of the biggest comebacks in its history.
Pelkas opened the scoring in the 14th minute to give the home side a 1-0 half-time lead. PAOK then produced an explosive second-half display, with goals from Leo Matos (48’), Shakhov (73’) an Projovic (83’) putting the seal on a superb win and taking PAOK through to the 2017 final.
On that night, PAOK began a journey which lead the team to three successive cup wins, which also included the domestic league and cup double in the 2018-19 season.
PAOK’s lineup on that night was the following: Glykos, Leo Matos, Leovac, Crespo, Varela, Warda (46’ Biseswar), Chimirot, Shakhov (79’ Canas), Pelkas , Prijovic, Djalma (59’ Pedro Henrique).
