Under-19’s beat Xanthi in five-goal thriller
PAOK’s Under-19 side recorded yet another victory, defeating Xanthi at Pigadia 3-2 and now only needs two points from their final three games to wrap up their third successive Super League title.
It seems that nothing can stop Pablo Garcia and Miroslav Schnauzner’s remarkable team, who are just a breath away from clinching another league title which will be their third in a row.
Xanthi are the latest «victims» to fall at the hand – or rather feet – of the Dikefalos tou Vorra’s young aces, who were in the ascendancy for long spells and deservedly came away with the three points.
The home side opened the scoring from a header following a corner after nine minutes, but PAOK’s response came in the 24th minute with Tziolis’ free-kick deflecting off a defender before flying past the Xanthi goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
In the second half, PAOK came out of the dressing rooms in determined mood, with Gorteziani applying a fine finish to Salamouras‘ through ball after 51 minutes to swing the pendulum back in the visiting side’s favor. Six minutes later and it was 3-1 when Koutsias found the back of the net with a great strike.
The Akrites set up a tense finale by pulling a goal back in the 78th minute, but PAOK held on comfortably to their lead until the final whistle.
The Dikefalos tou Vorra is now 10 points clear of second-placed Panathinaikos with three matches to go, while the Greens have four to play. That means PAOK require just two points from their three fixtures to retain the league crown.
