Year in Review: The 2019 Statistical Review

The year 2019 is undoubtedly the best year in the club’s long history. Within the past 12 months, PAOK managed to go unbeaten for an entire season to end a 34-year wait for a league title, lift the Greek Cup, and break many great and long-standing records. Paokfc.gr brings you the statistical breakdown of a magical year.

27.12.2019

Unbeaten league champions, domestic double-winners, unbeaten throughout a whole calendar year, the longest streak of matches scoring goals, the longest run of successive away matches scored in, and the best away record in Europe.

And all of these are just a few of the incredible achievements made by the Dikefalos tou Vorra in 2019. A year which will live long in our memory. A year of complete domination by PAOK.

Let’s try and translate it all into numbers and see what the club achieved in terms of statistics.

The overall picture

During 2019, the club played 43 matches in all competitions. The record is 30 wins, nine draws and just four just defeats, with 98 goals scored and 34 conceded.

But the thing that steals the show is that in the Super League, from 32 games played, PAOK chalked up 25 wins and seven draws, with 77 goals scored and just 21 conceded, with the counter recording a total of 51 games without a defeat in the domestic league, a series that runs from a 3-2 away loss against Asteras Tripolis in 2018.

The players who put the most work in

Jose Crespo and Diego Biseswar are the two players with the most match time within 2019, with both men recording 39 appearances. The Spaniard has played a lot more minutes, and is actually at the top of the overall standings in the entire league. Chuba Akpom and Leo Matos follow with 38 and 37 games respectively, while Limnios, who has 35, closes out the Top 5. Karol Swiderski with 33, Fernando Varela, Dimitris Pelkas , Dimitris Giannoulis – all with 32, and Alexandros Paschalakis with 31 make up the top ten.

Swiderski and the rest

Swiderski joined the team in January, and was thrown in straight at the deep end.  He was able to adjust immediately, however, and offered the team a lot right from the start. The Polish forward is the team’s top scorer for 2019 with 15 goals, four more than Akpom, who is in second place.

Biseswar completes the podium with 10 goals, followed by Vierinha with nine, and Leo Matos with eight.
