Under-19’s pay dearly for errors in Kiev

PAOK’s Under-19 side need a minor miracle to reach the UEFA Youth League Play Offs after losing 3-0 defeat to Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine on Wednesday in their second round, first leg contest.

06.11.2019

Everything that could go round did go wrong right from the start for Pablo Garcia and Miroslav Schnauzner’s team. After only 10 minutes, Michailidisfouled Isaienko in the penalty area and Tsitaishvilli stepped up to slot home the resulting spot-kick.

PAOK tried hard to respond to that early setback and managed to press the home side back into their own half for long spells. But Dynamo were always dangerous on the counter-attack, and Panidis gave away another penalty in the second minute of added time before half-time. Tsitaishvilli then converted his second spot-kick of the match to make it 2-0

In the second half, the Double-headed Eagle of the North went in search of a goal to try and get back into the game, but both Tziolis and Koutsias failed to make the most of good chances. PAOK then paid for that dearly when Nadolskyi pounced to score after 76 minutes to make the final score 3-0.

PAOK now face a mountainous task in the return leg to turn the tie around when the two teams meet again in three weeks at the Toumba.

PAOK lineup:

Talichmanidis, Tachatos, Michailidis, Panagiotou, Kaloutsikidis, Tsiggaras, Tsopouroglou (46′ Grosdis), Doumtsis (74′ Pournaras), Theodoridis, Panidis (46′ Koutsias), Tziolis
